Business computing is the study of computer technology in commercial context. It combines aspects of computer science with subjects like accounting, marketing, information systems and business strategy in order to allow individuals to make use of computers to implement organizational solutions.
Companies require individuals who can create robust, reliable, and user-friendly systems to support organisational decisions in an era where computers are increasingly used for information distribution and analysis of data. You will also develop broader skills employers value in IT professionals including teamwork and leadership to project management and problem-solving. The degree provides the foundation for software development, programming websites, web design as well as information systems. You can also choose to focus on data analytics, advanced computer science, or marketing.
The course will provide you with an understanding of Windows and its application software, such as Word 2002 for Windows word processing spreadsheets and database management systems graphic presentation software, and the Internet. Additionally, it will teach you about e-commerce security and computer security issues.
The majority of teaching will be through seminars and lectures with many courses including laboratory-based computing exercises. Students are also required to conduct independent study and research both at home and at the university.
